They limit production so inventory is purposefully low creating a sales model akin to auctions. Speculators buy them up, torture and abuse them for a few hundred miles and then flip them back to dealers. This is what Porsche is doing to their loyal customers to rip them off and pay for all the costly EV losses they are suffering from their stupidity. I refuse to pay a 50% increase in price for a 911. So, the fools can pay this and I’ll move on to another brand…maybe a new MB AMG GT 63.

Basically need to find a low mileage 4-5 year car if you want in.

I have a theory on future value of the 911’s. The success of the Macan (which out sells 911’s twofold) has created a new younger generation of Porsche buyers. In the past Porsche owners were a small percentage of the population. The affordable Macan has introduced a whole new income level to the pure driving enjoyment of Porsche vehicles. Additionally the Cayman and Boxster owners tend to graduate to the 911 if/when financial situations allow. These buyers over time will payoff homes, college tuition etc. and desire to own the best of what Porsche has to offer. The future demand for 911’s in all variants will remain strong….just a theory.

The Porsche Brand was built on slow depreciation and projected as the Accountants choice. Porsche has become a commodity brand just like the rest. The Boxster saved the Brand which was close to Bankruptcy in 1996 them all the fundamental values were second to profitability. Even the once European Chic, sophisticated 911 Carrera small lightweight car reflecting Ferdinand Porsches ideal, has become a bloated plastic laden lump.

Any high performance variant 911 (GT/RS/GTS/equivalent and Turbos) from any generation, from the original 50-year-old 911 gen to the current 992 still carries high prices.

I don’t understand this market. I considered buying a 991.2 CS listed for $101K over a year ago. Same car today is listed for $108K. You’re telling I could have made a profit owning this car for all this time? It’s a 7 year old used car, not even exclusive model. How is this possible?

Hands down the best supercar. They are so reliable. There is no other car you can 4x the HP with a twin turbo kit and keep everything other than the turbo and tune stock.... not to mention how violent and aggressive the car is, its my favorite 😂 haha

I just bought my second used Corvette in the past two years and prices haven't gone down much over the past year. C8s are now selling about 10 percent under sticker for one with lower miles, whereas they were selling way over sticker for used two years. Still high at 10 percent below sticker for a car that's three or four years old.

Just put a deposit for a new 992 carrera, basically all dealerships I taked to told me that it would take over a year to get it, I hope I don't get tired of waiting

992.2 is coming and it will be naturally aspirated hybrids. It will be interesting to see how that will affect the prices of 992.1. If the new Panamera and Taycan are any indication, it looks like the active suspension will be an even bigger deal than the hybrid system.

What about 911 Turbos from 997 and 991 generations. Here in Dubai, 997 turbos have barely budged since 10 years ago! Depreciation is snail-like, but now actually flat and possibly appreciating. Does anyone have any insights on 991 turbos? The 992 turbo is so expensive, older turbos should be appreciating or stable. This is like the Rolex effect applied to vehicles.

Hype and mania around Emira was always going to lead to a reality check as many jumped on the bandwagon thinking they would make a profit. Now the party is over, the speculators are long gone and the hangover is kicking in. Problem for Emira is Lotus need to make masses of them and they pitched it below the outgoing Evora in performance and price in order to keep the costs down and the sales high. Since then, price inflation has pushed the Emira back up to Evora 410 prices but performance hasn't changed. Turbo 4 Emira was launched as a 'sub £60k' sports car which attracted a lot of deposits. Now they are finally being delivered, Lotus are asking over £80k for them.

911 demographic are big holders of financial assets. When risk assets started bull run in Oct 2023 it also marked bottom for 911 market from my anecdotal observation (992 wait list muppet here)

FYI - the seasonal pattern is real, especially in colder climates. I have a 991.1 cab & when I tried to trade it in back in November (in Colorado) I was offered $59k, was in yesterday & was offered $68k trade-in.

Since porsche will be releasing the new 992.2, will it increase the rate of depreciation for prior year cars?

I love my 997.1 base. Numeric short shifter plus m030 Porsche damper/springs with gt3 sway bars and gt3 lower control arms for camber. The thing just grips.

The other thing i feel isnt emphasized enough is the seasonality of the sports car market both in terms of comparing year over year and when those “3 months” of seller delay occurs. If you put a sports car for sale in august or september va may or june in the entire northern states you would obviously have discounts. You need to filter out that variance as jt probably is consistent historically every year

An i8 update would be nice (i know they arent many of us) also maybe a general analysis of correlation between discontinuation and price variance (vipers, r8s, i8s etc…)

Seeing a lot of overpriced 911s sitting on market these days. Sellers probably overpaid for inventory and can’t afford to cut prices unless they become desperate. Manual transmission cars are trading at a $10k premium to PDK cars.
